Vincent Van Doughnut Reviews

Really spectacular donuts here! I loved the yeast donuts and thought they had a uniquely delicious texture and flavor. I wasn’t really a fan of the cake donuts, though. Those tasted a little dry and weren’t as buttery or soft as I would have liked. Perfect for dunking in coffee, though! The Lemon Curd filled was by far my favorite of the day – the Bismarck was amazing and the Lemon Curd was flawless! More expensive than other shops but worth the price for the yeast donuts, especially the Strawberry Cheesecake which was better than some restaurant desserts I’ve paid 3 times the price for.

Nice place for breakfast. Yeast rise donuts are unique. Soft and fluffy. My favorite is coffee. Other flavors are a little too sweet for me. Breakfast calzone is also good.

We arrived late on a Saturday morning, so the selection was already a bit picked over. However, the counter staff happily described everything that was left. We ordered a Maple Bacon and a Cheesecake Cookie Crumble- highly recommend them both- delicious donuts! A few groups came in behind us and I believe nearly all options were sold out before noon, so arrive early. The only downside for me was figuring out the parking situation, being from out of town there was a bit of driving around trying to determine where to park, but there is a metered lot on the other side of the building and limited street parking.

In the Grove neighborhood, Vincent Van Doughnut serves delicious and unique doughnut flavors. It was hard to try and resist trying one of everything. In addition to doughnuts, there are other baked goods and even some savory options. What goes better with a doughnut than a delicious cup of coffee? Luckily Sump coffee is paired with there tasty doughnuts, making for a delightful combination! I concur with the saying of “all you need is love and maybe doughnuts!”

Amazing! Everyone is extremely nice and helpful. I called short notice this morning to pick up two dozen, a treat to my coworkers, and it was ready very quickly! They had a list of what was in the box and explained how it was sorted before I left, very appreciated. It smells amazing inside, very clean, and the donuts look and taste fantastic! Huge hit at the office, everyone loved it. I absolutely recommend, well worth the price!

We left just 10 minutes ago, and I had to write this review before I forgot! Amazing! The atmosphere and staff are immediately welcoming. There is such a wide variety, and there is something for everyone. We ended up with 4 specialty donuts, a classic cake donut, and maple bacon bread pudding (our favorite). The prices are an absolute steal. We won’t be coming back to STL without making a stop here, that’s for sure. Our Air BNB host is also a big fan of the place. It really seems to be a staple. Whether you’re local or just visiting, you have got to stop by!

This place is amazing. The woman who helped us was knowledgeable about the area since we were out of town. The food is so good and the doughnuts LOOK so good that it’s hard to choose just one. They are excellent fresh AND leftover.

Might not be for me….
*Before I share, I will preface this by stating that the clerk I interacted with did mention that they looked very large today so I’m curious if maybe something went wrong with this batch.
Maybe because I was super excited to try these or the hipster look and locale or the appearance of the donuts…. but I was super let down. Tried an assortment from blueberry cheesecake to chocolate chip cookie dough to cookies’n’cream to maple bacon (the one I was really looking forward to). Overall, the donut itself was very thick and heavy in texture and tasted more like sandwich bread than a donut. The donut was very bland and almost seems intended to rely on the heap of toppings. (The wife and I cut donuts in to quarters so we could sample all the flavors we got. Washed with a lemon drink in between for fresh flavor each time)
Some notables:
The Chocolate Covered Chocolate Cake: described to me as a chocolate old fashioned style donut (old fashioned sour cream is one of my favorites). I’m not really sure what it was that I ate but I didn’t feel like it was a chocolate cake. The donut was thick and bland with a hint at wanting to be chocolate. The toppings were kind of an overload of chocolate that my chocolate loving wife struggled to even really identify how it tasted. Just tasted off.
The chocolate chip cookie crumble and the cheesecake cookie crumble: these both had a brown sugar crunchy topping (I think) that is the only topping that actually compliments the thick and bread donut. It provides some sweet to compliment it with some texture to break up the thick feel in your mouth. These two I didn’t really mind much and would consider having again.
The Maple Bacon: I was super sad when I got into this one. Like most people, I love me some bacon. I’m a chubby dude and have tried bacon all different ways. Not my first go at a Maple Bacon donut….so I was excited because it’s bacon and Maple topping…..perfect compliments. Hoping it would handle the donut texture (I save best for last)….. the Maple topping never really came through. I was left with an overpowering burnt bacon taste. The bacon was not visibly burnt anywhere so I’m curious if I got a late batch and the early batches had burned the grease and the flavor carried. The burn taste really took over the entire donut.
I will repeat it is very possible I caught an off day as I have a friend who swears by their light and fluffy donuts but for now I won’t be back. The price is a little steep for donuts but worth it if I had been satisfied. Prices will vary but I paid about $45 for a dozen donuts (the 12th was free with purchase of 11). The place looks amazing inside with a very hipster feel to it. The service was super friendly and inviting.

My family and I had these donuts while on vacation in Stl. The service was quick, donuts were delicious, and the good coffee made everything perfect. If you like donuts, don’t miss this place.

Stopped by here around 10am on a Sunday and they were down to 4 donuts, all the same flavor (some kind of Oreo). I realize that donut shops can sell out early sometimes, but to run out by 10am seems like they aren’t making enough. We only needed one (they are huge) but as I was paying they had to turn people around after selling the remaining donuts. That being said, they are pretty good donuts, just not that spectacular. Coffee was good.
