Dunkin Donuts has a selection of drinks and add-ons like flavor shots and swirls that truly enhance the taste and make them irresistible. However, it’s no secret that Dunkin drinks with syrups are full of sugar which may be harmful to people with diabetes or insulin resistance autoimmune disease. Whether you have one of the aforementioned disorders or want to dose down on sugar to lose weight, check out this article, and learn everything you need to know about Dunkin Donuts’ sugar-free syrups.
What Syrups at Dunkin Donuts are Sugar-Free?
Whether you’re after a flavor shot or a swirl, it’s always handy to know which ones are sugar-free. One thing worth noting is that it’d be best to let your bartender at Dunkin Donuts know that you need the sugar-free shot to make sure they won’t include the one rich in sugar by accident.
If you want a sugar-free option that will enhance the flavor of your drink, you should go for flavor shots because they’re unsweetened, and don’t contain any sugar or dairy products. On the other hand, swirls, which are also known as syrups are loaded with sugar and contribute to the higher caloric value of the drink. Still, they add a creamier effect to your drink, thanks to the sugar and dairy.
Here’s a list of syrups from Dunkin Donuts:
- French Vanilla
- Toasted Almond
All these options are ideal for a low-carb diet and work great with cold brew coffee. Lastly, they are dairy-free. You can combine them with black coffee or Americano. But, they still work great with iced coffee just like the flavor swirls do.
You’re unlikely to find Dunkin’ swirls that are sugar-free, as those are more commonly referred to as syrups. However, all flavor shots are sugar-free so as long as you specify that you want a flavor shot, you won’t get any added sugar in your drink.
Swirls are rich in dairy, so if you’re getting a flavor shot, you should couple it with non-dairy milk such as oat milk or almond milk. A splash of cream may be tasty but non-dairy drinks can also be as flavorful. They are great combined with espresso shots too and represent the lowest calorie option.
Are Dunkin Donuts Flavor Shots Sugar-Free?
As mentioned earlier, flavor shots don’t have any sweetening that could lead to a higher caloric value or sugar intake, which makes them safe for people with diabetes. Instead, they’re loaded with plenty of flavors that will enhance the taste of your drink. It’s still important to always specify that you’re after a flavor shot and not a swirl.
Coconut milk is also a great add-on with all the flavor shots that Dunkin Donuts offers. Dunkin’ swirls are creamier which attracts people who prefer creamier drinks, but at the end of the day, a green tea or flavor shot can be as delicious and fulfilling, especially if combined with an English muffin or turkey sausage sandwich.
Are Dunkin Unsweetened Flavors Sugar-Free?
The answer to this question depends on a few things, like whether you’re asking for unsweetened flavor shots or unsweetened swirls. Swirls are syrups with sugar and dairy products that make them more swirly and creamy when added to a drink.
On the other hand, Dunkin flavor shots don’t have any sugar in them. Most importantly, neither type of product has added artificial sweeteners which can be unhealthy for both healthy people and those with diabetes. Flavor shots and syrup swirls add 5-10 and 150-160 calories per medium drink respectively.
Even though they are sugar-free and likely contain 0g fat, they can keep you filled up and energized for the rest of the day.
Does Dunkin Donuts Have a Caramel Sugar-Free Syrup?
Dunkin Donuts serves drinks with the caramel flavor shot which is sugar-free. However, it’s important to specify that you’re looking for a caramel flavor shot, as if you don’t specify it, they may add a swirl that has sugar in it. Always make sure to specify what you’re looking for. Either way, with Dunkin Donuts’ caramel flavor shot, any drink gets a special texture and amazing taste.
Does Dunkin Have Sugar-free Pumpkin Syrup?
Pumpkin and pumpkin spice are specific flavors that are mostly seasonal. While you may wish to have them in your drinks throughout the year, they are best consumed during the fall and spooky season, especially Halloween.
Right now, Dunkin announced that Pumpkin is back to enrich the Fall, as fall is not just a season, it’s also a lifestyle. Make sure to specify that you want to get a flavor shot so that your drink will be sugar-free.
However, it’s still unclear whether Pumpkin-spice and other pumpkin-related flavors got their sugar-free version. Dunkin Donuts said that they are testing a sugar-free Pumpkin flavor shot, but it was never announced whether the new version made it to the market.
Is Dunkin Pumpkin Swirl Sugar-Free?
As mentioned earlier, all swirls at Dunkin Donuts contain sugar and add quite a lot of the calorie count to all beverages at Dunkin Donuts. Pumpkin swirl is no exception and while it doesn’t contain any artificial sweeteners, it’s important to note that it is rich in sugar.
Dunkin worked hard to bring flavor shots to be sugar-free, but pumpkin swirl is unfortunately not. Many years ago it was announced that Dunkin’ Donuts is working on sugar-free Pumpkin beverages in the form of a flavor shot that would be sugar-free. However, the plans have never been finalized.
In the 2022 press, we can see that many of the seasonal drinks have at least some kind of sugar added in, so you can’t say that they’re sugar-free.
Does Dunkin Donuts Pumpkin Spice Have Sugar?
Drinks with added pumpkin spice syrup use swirls, which means that those drinks are packed with extra sugar. That also means that the calorie count for a medium drink containing pumpkin spice will be significantly higher.
We mentioned earlier that Dunkin Donuts should be working on Pumpkin-related flavor shots, but until then, it’s not recommended for people with diabetic disorders to take PSL drinks and similar. Those drinks are packed with at least 34 grams of sugar, and more often than not, they’re sprinkled with additional cinnamon sugar and brown sugar.
If you’re simply restricting yourself from sugar, but there are no health-related barriers that prevent you from taking sugar-rich drinks, you should treat Pumpkin spice beverages such as pumpkin spice latte or latte lite as a dessert you wanted to treat yourself with, and not consume daily.
Once or twice per week is more than enough, after all the Pumpkin season is quite attractive and it’s pity not to try at least one drink with pumpkin spice! For those liking cold beverages even during the colder days, iced macchiato with breakfast wake-up wrap or bacon egg or other breakfast sandwiches is great too.
Restricting sugar in your diet can be quite difficult, regardless of whether you can’t take it for health reasons or you simply want to take less sugar in your daily diet. Luckily, flavor shots allow people to enjoy rich texture and flavor without added sugar without ruining the texture. Some of the more popular options we didn’t mention above are the cool mint herbal infusion and hibiscus kiss herbal infusion. What’s your favorite Dunkin Donuts flavor shot? Let us know!
