Penny’s Waikiki Malasadas Reviews

These malasadas were amazing, fluffy, full of custard, warm and chewy and fresh. The coconut ones were especially good, I do recommend letting them cool a bit or you’ll have melted custard all over your shirt because they serve them right out of the fryer.

This is a store in the mall at the food court. There are a couple different flavors to choose from. There was nothing for chocolate lovers and nothing fruity. We went with 6 to go plus ice cream sandwiches. The price was a bit shocking, I would say even compared to the prices of everything else in Hawaii. They were good tasting. No complains on the texture or flavor, just a bit underwhelming for the cost. There wasn’t much filling, I guess maybe some people don’t like a lot of filling? I would say they could go ahead and add more filling though, people that don’t like all of the filling don’t have to eat it.

On a whim we stopped by. Best decision we made the entire trip. Don’t have a ton to compare it to, but none other we tried compared to how delicious these were. Light, airy and fresh to order, we were floored by how good these were. Do not pass these up.

I’ve never had a malasada before and I’m so glad I got to try it for the first time from penny’s. These were so good, we grabbed some more the second day. Many people also recommended Leonard’s and I went and tried theirs too but ultimately recommend penny’s. I liked penny’s the most because the dough was just the right mix of fluffy with dense and their filling was the perfect sweetness. You could also taste the freshness as well. If I live in Oahu I would come here all the time!

Very soft Malasadas and less oily. We only tried the plain/traditional

Delicious malasadas. Substantial, but without the heaviness; not thick, eggy, or greasy in any way. Lots of unique and unusual tastes. Malasadas are baked upon request, ensuring that they are served piping hot and fresh. The truck is quite easy to see from the road since it is parked in the southwestern corner of the shopping center’s parking lot, which is just next to the road’s junction. You may go up to the counter to place your order, and there are plenty of parking spaces. Extremely kind and welcoming proprietors that are eager to meet guests and chat with them about their malasadas and company.

Really disappointed. We ordered three custards for $10……problem was there was hardly any custard filled in the donuts. Leonard’s is still the best.

Very impressed with the quality of malasadas but also the quality of service. I walked up to the counter in the middle of what appeared to be a bit of a lunch rush, you could tell Penny’s was very busy. But they still took their time to kindly explain to me the daily specials and recommendations. I got a box of 6 malasadas to share with my friends, they allow you to pick 3 different flavors. I got the matcha special, the regular sugar one, and a mystery flavor (I asked for nutella but they misheard or something and gave me a different flavor, which is fine, it was still delicious). They were fresh, fluffy, and delicious. Very light and flavorful.
