Unreal selection of fresh donuts! We were in Birmingham for 3 days and got Shipleys all 3 mornings for breakfast. It’s that good! The coffee is excellent as well. Oh and we even got a dozen for the trip back home!

Donuts were just ok. My expectations were higher given the reviews. Coffee was worst I’ve had and I’m not picky with coffee. Probably had been sitting for hours since we got there later in day. Used the restroom only to be harassed when I came out saying they weren’t public and don’t use them next time. No need to worry, won’t be a next time.

When the pandemic hit, I was told my favorite breakfast in Birmingham – Shipley’s Sausage, Cheese and Jalapeno Kolache – was going to be a little different because of disruptions in the pork processing business. Two and a half years later, they are still using what tastes like a cheap hot dog and calling it Sausage. I keep going by every month hoping they will change back, but no such luck. I’m not a donut person, so I’m still looking for a new favorite breakfast in Birmingham.

I moved from Houston, Texas, where Shipley Do-Nuts is very popular: there is one in every corner… it has been my favorite doughnut place! I was super excited to find it here in Hoover. The quality of the food is as good as it is in Texas, but their schedule is not. They were closed the fist time I went (I learned that they don’t open on Mondays) and the second time I got there at 2:01pm, and they were closing (they close at 2:00). Very disappointing when you wish to have fresh doughnuts with a cup of coffee in the afternoon. Both times I ended up going to Krispy Kreme (around the corner).

I find the disorganization at the front counter to be very strange and the outside parking lot is not often well kept.
The food quality is good, though.
I tried making call ahead orders and was told there was no need. That caused a longer wait time for morning pickup. Everyone likes the food but the rest is lacking.

Took my son here for his “first visit”, ( he had been multiple times as a small child but didn’t remember) We both love it. The staff is friendly, and willing to answer any and all your questions. You’d be surprised how many doughnut questions a 13 year old boy can come up with. They happily answered all of them, and quickly filled out order. Stop by, and enjoy their amazing sweet treats.
I highly recommend this place.

The services is great and they are never out of my Bavarian cream filled. . . Like crispy cream can be; nor do the limit the selection. Always faster the CC across the street. I’ve been going for the last 12 years.
