The best Pastrami sandwich I’ve ever had since Big Daddy’s subs closed on Hampton blvd. And it’s not even close. Love everything about this place. Great people and great service. Was gonna post a better picture but once I took the first bite I couldn’t stop. Lol

We stopped in to buy a loaf of bread, and ended up with 2 donuts, 2 baklava and 1 bread pudding in addition to the loaf of bread. Bread was decent, donuts had a nice orange flavour, baklava was not overly sweet. However, the cost of our selection was quite a shock – $6.50 each for the bread and bread pudding, and $29 total. The items we got were good, but they weren’t $29 good – the 3 * rating is due to what I perceive to be very high prices.

Great little hole in the wall deli. Handmade in house baked goods and sandwiches. We tried some amazing sweets and plan to come back for the sandwiches. If you’re looking for cheap price go grab something from a local grocery store bakery. You can’t get this kind of quality from anywhere other than this kind of spot and as the owner said ingredients aren’t cheap!

So let me start by saying the pastrami sandwich was damn good and that why this place is getting two stars rather than one. Overall the place was dirty and unorganized and not a nice place to be. He kept saying my girlfriend was going to want a sandwich when she saw mine and when he mentioned chocolate covered bacon I told him she was vegetarian. Later in the interaction he told her to not be so picky because harder times are coming and we are going to have to eat what we can get and get told us in no uncertain terms that we needed to plant a garden. In total we got one sandwich, and two pastries (1 was good, and tasted like pure sugar and cardboard) and it was $35. It was worth $20 at most. So needless to say, not going back, which is unfortunate because that sandwich was good.

I’m fine with paying high prices for incredible homemade custard, but this wasn’t it. Paid 70 bucks for disappointing pastries. 8.95 for chocolate covered bacon? 14 bucks for the most disappointing and soggy eclair I’ve ever had? No thanks, I’ll pass.

This place is AMAZING! Best pastrami sandwich and great pastries that aren’t dry whatsoever. We will definitely be back!

His croissant-donuts are quite literally the best donuts I’ve ever had. The store front makes it hard to tell if it’s open or closed-down for good, but once you get the courage to walk in, you’ll find it’s well worth the trip.

George also makes amazing pastrami sandwiches.

Do not pass on this place!

I’ve been coming here for years and can’t believe I have not given this establishment their due credit. This is one of the last surviving places of good ol Americana eatery. George and his brother(God rest his soul) have kept this deli alive and open and still a top quality venue for delicatessen and pastrami sandwiches.

Hands down this is the best pastrami sandwhich in the Hampton Roads are, and yes I have been to many….some come close, but French’s always comes out on top.

After one of the giant pastrami sandwiches, go ahead and wash it down with their signature orange donut. Then on the way out grab a jar of his delicate rose jelly, if he has any left….trust me this is a blast on any toast.

Highly recommended!! Stop by and support a long standing local!!

This place has been around for a long time. The front end could use a good dusting and wipe down but the food is fantastic. Try the pastrami sandwich with everything on it. May seem a bit pricey but, worth it. Yum. Pastries are so tasty. Call ahead. Enjoy

One of the best hidden gems in all of Norfolk! My husband and I moved to the area around a year ago and quickly came across this awesome sandwich shop. George, the owner, truly makes the experience every time we walk through the door. The sandwiches are phenomenal and worth every penny! It’s hard to find a sandwich made with homemade bread, quality ingredients, and freshly made to order. If you’re looking for a great sandwich and a place with a ton of character and quality go see George at the French Bakery and tell him we said hi!
