Donut Bar + Coffee, Livonia Reviews

These donuts were great! We got a few different ones and they were all equally tasty. Service was friendly, and the price was definitely competitive for gourmet donuts. Unfortunately donuts aren’t a regular treat, BUT I know where we’ll be going when we want donuts!

I’m posting this based on 2 things:
These reviews are incredibly misleading & second, there isn’t one coffee shop around here that has fresh brewed gourmet Illy coffee, or makes donuts fresh every morning from scratch.
(Hey Starbucks, dunkin donuts..Tim Hortons where everything is processed & prepackaged from frozen, or layered in additive sugars).

You might need a palate cleansing if you’re used to your daily sugary & burnt Starbucks standard coffees and frozen-to-thawed out “fresh” Tim hortons donuts before coming here. These donuts aren’t just good donuts, they’re GOOD GOOD

As far as pricing, gourmet quality fresh from scratch is going to cost you extra (and WELL WORTH IT for $3)- bakers’ hands & labor aren’t free. Otherwise, a box of machine batch made frozen donuts might be more up your alley if you’re looking to get a batch of donuts for $1 or less. If that’s what you’re used to, your wallet might also need a small palette cleansing if you’re not used to quality made. There are VERY few local shops around here that make their own donuts from scratch.

And as a former vegan of 11 years, the vegan options are some of the best I’ve had (I’d die for that maple walnut, & coco loco was VERY close behind).

Skip the small $7 sugary “skinny” no whip mocha frappe “coffee” & save it for the donut bar. Thank me later

I really don’t understand why there is an abundance of negative comments, I’ve been here 3 times now and every time it’s been wonderful! I don’t think it’s overpriced at all, especially the gluten free option. Other places charge way more! If you want refined sugar and corn syrup , than feel free to go to one of the many chain of donut shops. This might be a different pace especially from what your used too so let your palette try the real thing! I’d also like to thank the ladies that worked there, they were polite and kind and offered us a free sample! I definitely will be coming back. Thank you !

I tried Donut Bar based on the reviews and was excited to taste their products.
On the positive side the donuts look great and the store was clean. Looking great did not equal tasting good. The donuts were a real let down for me and definitely didn’t live up to the the hype. I had the chocolate, Boston Cream and the Oreo cookies and cream donuts. The chocolate semi sweet glaze was bitter. Donut was heavy and lack flavor. The staff was not welcoming and spent more time talking to each other then interacting with customers. If you enjoy heavy, doughy yeast donuts served by unfriendly guys this place is made for you. Here’s a tip…end your conversation with your coworkers when customers enter the establishment, greet your customers with a smile, people want to know that you care about their patronage, actively listen to the customer when they place an order so you can get the order the first time. You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression.

Got a dozen to try and was pleasantly surprised! I had wanted donuts for a while, and the only thing close was Dunkin’ Donuts… so I was thrilled to find this place just opened in Livonia!

Flavors are very sweet, but they actually have the flavors they are named after!

Will come back to try more and a little earlier to see if I can try some other flavors!

The donut dough tastes chewy and not fresh. I went at 8:05am and they open at 8am. There was only one person working who did not greet me. I wait 15 minutes to be waited on. Donuts average about $4.00 each which is fine but I expect such an expensive donut to be amazing. The donuts are definitely not amazing. They all taste the same and are actually gross. There are very pretty but tasteless.

I really wanted to love this place, I made a huge deal about it and my son decided that’s what he wanted for his 9th birthday. So we made the trek out to Livonia, from Canton, which takes forever now because…construction, lol. The two employees were young, very nice, but seemed annoyed with having to be a work. It was slow, we were the only ones there. I asked how much for a dozen, they said they were all different prices. (That’s a miss Donut Bar, it cost me over $35 for one dozen donuts! There should be an incentive for getting a dozen, since that’s how donuts are usually sold). I thought there would be more variety, but honestly, there’s more variety at Tim Hortons. The donuts are huge, but not the best tasting. The Boston cream, does not taste like normal cream, it is tangy and no one in my family liked them. They were tasty, it’s not like they were gross. But, I feel zero need to go back and I’m not still talking about them like other dessert places I’ve had before. Don’t waste your time unless you are craving donuts and no place else is open.

Today was their Grand Opening at the Livonia location and I was SO impressed! Was able to preorder & pay for my donuts the night before for pickup at 8AM (through their website donutbardetroit.com)

Arrived at 8AM and while there was a line (expected for opening day) the staff were working efficiently and it only took a few minutes for me to get to the counter and claim my already pre-picked box of donuts.

We tried the Fruity Pebbles, Maple Bacon, Funfetti Buttercream & Vanilla Bean Glaze but they have plenty more regular and Vegan flavors I can’t wait to try. My favorite so far is the maple bacon, but all the donuts were fresh and amazing and definitely not as sweet as they looked, I can’t wait to go back!

I’m lactose intolerant and for the first time, I’m able to enjoy yummy donuts! This has become our Sunday tradition, even my 3 yr old grandson looks forward to trying a new donut each week! So happy they were awarded Hour magazine Best of 2022, so deserved!!!
