Bridgeport Bakery 2.0 Reviews

I ordered pineapple upside-down cupcakes/muffins as a birthday surprise for an old friend. The employees were extremely helpful and the online order process was simple. Delivery went without a hitch, and our friend loved the delicious baked goods. He said they closely matched what his mother baked when he was growing up.

Worst worst experience EVER!!! Got there for a noon paczki pickup at 11:18 and waited outside in line until 12:20. I left there at 1:24 empty handed. They gave my order to someone else, and instead of replacing my order and refunding me for the 2 items they didn’t have he just said sorry we can’t replace it. He said he could UPS it to me “tomorrow or something”.
Oh yeah, did I mention that I drove in from a different state to get these paczkis? It was utter chaos! They couldn’t find orders, they were giving them away to the wrong people. No system at all. They were just packing orders at 1pm for orders placed days ago. So while it looks like we are in line because this place is the best, we are actually in line because this place is the worst place EVER!

When the owner(Can) calls you himself to straighten out an order issue, you know you are dealing with someone who cares about customer satisfaction. My wife used to live in Bridgeport and the Bridgeport Bakery was an integral part her familiy’s lives, she was very sad to hear that they closed.
I will update this review after we receive the bacon buns to see if they are just as good as they used to be.

This was one of my food stops while back in IL for a short time to see if they are like they used to be. The answer is NO. They aren’t really a walk in bakery. They are barely open. The website says an option is to preorder. It’s not an option, it is the only option. The hours are wrong on the website. States closes at 11:30 when it’s actually ten or I guess when ever they want. Woke up at 5:30 just to call them to be told they only preorder. FYI a danish is not the same as a bacon buns. I would think as a bakery they would know that. So why offer that up when someone is asking for something specific. Glad I called before driving to a closed store they say is open until 11:30. The 2.0 in their name might be the rating they gave themselves. Good luck to future patrons. I hope you get better customer service than I. It was Very disappointing. They might be better for others. Just plan on getting up at the crack of dawn and hope they are open. If not you have to wait over 30 minutes for pick up while they do deliveries. Maybe some day they will be a real bakery.

Now operating under v2.0 designation, Bridgeport Bakery returned to the Windy City’s South Side in time for Paczki Day 2020, and currently serving the community amidst COVID-19 precautions it seems as though new owner Can Lao has quickly learned the ropes from former Baker Ron Pavelka who was forced to shutter as a result of illness last October.

Well known for Donuts, Bacon Buns and Paczki during Pavelka’s 47 year tenure, a little remodeling and staff donning PPE the only real difference between past and present according to those in the know, it was minutes to 9:30 on Sunday that shelves were found stocked at prices that trend much lower than almost any other Bakery in Chi-town.

Located at 2907 South Archer Avenue, and take-out only long before a global pandemic rendered nearly every similar concept in Chicago the same, it was with eyes larger than stomach that six items were chosen, first bites of an Oatmeal Raisin Cookie pleasantly familiar thanks to bold aromatics, crispy rim and soft center.

Requesting Ron teach him the trade and keeping almost all Bridgeport’s original staff on payroll, Lao’s Donuts ring in at just $1.30 each, traditional “Frycakes” offering a delicate crumb and thick Glaze while a deep-fried Cinnamon Roll eats light, wispy and oilless at the exact same price.

Already sold out of Bacon Buns, and oddly offering a few types of Dim Sum, Breakfast continued with a daily-special Danish-duo, Cream Cheese and Apricot dueling for top billing before getting lost in the wake of a tart and sweet Cherry Slice.

Tempted by Coffee Cake and Muffins, but mindful of stomach capacity in the midst of a long day, there was simply no passing up on housemade Rainbow Cookies, the combination of Almond Paste and Raspberry Jam slow to melt and beautifully balanced by Dark Chocolate.

Ordered Paczkis for the office for delivery at 12:15ish. I called a little after a half hour past the delivery time and they had no clue what was going on. They tried to get in touch with the delivery person with no luck or clue as to why they were unresponsive. An hour after the delivery window all they could say is we don’t know. If you offer delivery as a company make it reliable or don’t offer it. Never ordering from here again…

It’s not what it used to be new owners are ruining it. You can’t buy donuts without ordering ahead of time???? Makes no sense if a new customer has never had it?

They have the best maple bacon donut!!! Has the right crunch!!! The cookies melt in your mouth & they are reasonable. The service was great & staff is friendly. Definitely will be going back!!!

UPDATE: 3/2/2022

Bridgeport Bakery reached out and completed the rest of our missing order. Now that’s good customer service.

Get the Bacon Buns.

This review breaks my heart.

I love the bacon buns, banana nut loaf, and various other items they serve. But on Pączki day it was a complete disaster. Pre-orders were not ready despite ordered a week ago, and when I went to pick up my order of 2 Pączki, order of Bacon Buns, and some muffins (total order of $46), they only had my Pączki.

So I spent $46 on 2 Pączki and they didn’t bother offering a refund.

I don’t think this bakery is going to last long. Again.

I ordered 4 pączki and a few other baked goods from Bridgeport Bakery 2.0 via their website late last week. When I went to visit yesterday (Monday 2/28), nothing was organized and my order wasn’t ready. In addition, 2 of the items that I ordered were not available, which I got a refund for. I’m really not happy with the quality of the fruit filled pączki though. I got 1 apricot, 1 raspberry, and 1 strawberry with whipped cream. Had a small taste of all of them but couldn’t finish any. Mostly thick pie filling and very little fruit in the strawberry and raspberry. From the little fruit that is there, there’s no tartness so it’s just super sweet. The apricot had some fruit but no fresh flavor. Also got a slice of the pineapple coconut cake. Same thing. No tartness from the pineapple to balance out the sweetness – it didn’t taste like fresh fruit. The custard pączki was fine and I look forward to having the bacon buns I got, but otherwise, it’s not what it was. I’m pretty disappointed.
