Smith’s Bakeries, has a small satellite space located inside the Countryside Market.
Smith’s bakery has been a staple in Bakersfield for about 70 years. They now have several different satellite shops in Bakersfield, along with their main bakery on Union Ave.
Try their thumb print cookies, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like them.

Smith’s is the best bakery in town. Their maple bars are the best I’ve ever had. Thumbprint, alligator, clown and of course the happy face cookies all taste great and now I can get my favorite pink champagne cake in a cupcake.

Now has champagne cupcakes & Chocolate smileys on Saturdays. The thumbprints are excellent. “Bee hives” with a thin pastry sheet, light icing/drizzle over pecans- so excellent! One of the simple Bakersfield must-trys. As a kid and as an adult- I love this bakery!

They are famous for their cookies and for good reason. But don’t forget to come back and try more than just the cookies. Buttercream frosting cupcakes, maple bars, even cakes. The best bakery for hundreds of miles.

I cannot stress enough how good this place is. They are definitely a little more expensive than most of the other donut shops/bakeries in town but it’s worth it. if you’re going to splurge on sweets you might as well make them the best in town and go here. Their location on Manor usually has a bigger selection if you are looking for something specific, and they definitely take special orders on their many seasonal items.

What has happened to their quality donuts? Picked up assorted this morning and everyone of the donuts and danish tasted worst than grocery store day old product. The dough had no flavor and tasted like they used cheap ingredients. Very disappointed to have paid high prices for cheap products.

Cookie, pastries, donuts, or cake – they never let you down! My favorites are banana cake (insanely most), strawberry muffins, red thumbprints (these have cinnamon icing), and raspberry danish. The champagne cake is a crowd pleaser. Easiest to order ahead if you need something special. I can’t recall a time they’ve ever so no to a request. Great people and excellent sweets

Best champagne cake you can get hands down.. vanilla, chocolate or a pink 1.. those powder sugar cookies are fire.. Go get some..

We ordered the pnut Butter yellow cake with choc icing. It was very dry. The icing was discolored. It was for a Birthday party and maybe one person ate it. I took pictures of the cake prior to cutting and after cutting. Very disappointed. Hopefully it was just a bad cake. I have a yellow with chocolate cake that we are thawing tomorrow for dinner guest with our family. Will let you know how it turns out.
