Wow. This place is so so good.
I came for the Squarenut (?) savory breakfast donut thing and it was incredibly delicious. Easily one of the best things I’ve eaten in 2022, and that’s really saying something. Possibly the first, definitely the best savory donut I’ve ever had. Heard it’s available for only 3 days. Ended up getting it 3 days in a row.
I also highly, highly recommend the butter sea salt donut. I’m more of a chocolate guy, but this donut was also competing for best donut I’ve ever had in my life.
I couldn’t recommend this place any harder. I give it 12/5 stars. My highest rating.
And best part is, my friend told me about it!

JD Flannel Donuts and Coffee is my new favorite donut shop.
LOCATION
This shop is nestled in the Plaza Del Obispo Shopping Center, just west of the 5 freeway in San Juan Capistrano.
PARKING
There are multiple parking spots available in this plaza. It is shared among the different businesses around it.
ORDERING
I spotted this donut shop on a Friday close to noon and it looked pretty busy. I looked it up on Yelp and decided to come back the following day. I figured there would be a long line given the popularity of this spot so I placed an online order for pickup. When I arrived, there was a line early Saturday morning so I was glad I had a short wait on the PICKUP side. Dave (the co-owner) was there that morning and he helped me with my order! What a friendly guy! I told him that it was my first time visiting his shop, and I was picking up a small box for myself and a separate box for my niece who has food allergies – this would be her first donut!
PACKAGING
Anyway, he made sure that the donuts were carefully packaged. The Gluten-free donuts were in the same box with the Vegan donuts but separated in a bag – very thoughtful! The branding outside the box was as cute as its blue and white gingham interior. I love when businesses put these small details.
TASTE & TEXTURE
The donuts were divine! It’s got a light overall crunch on the outside and a warm cake-like interior. And it wasn’t a heavy texture either nor was it super sweet — it was just right! The texture was almost spongy and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I loved every single flavor and can’t wait to try more on my next visit! My favorite was actually their Brown Butter Sea Salt – yum!
Overall, I highly recommend JD Flannel Donuts and Coffee. Simply good donuts consciously made with their customers in mind! Come support them and try the donuts for yourselves!

Best gluten free donuts I have ever had!! We live in Arizona, and we hit this place on the drive home from CA last weekend and boy am I so lucky we did. We got 4 of the honey graham and 3 banana chocolate chip donuts (2 of the 4 available GF August monthly flavors). We loved them both, but absolutely loved the banana chocolate chip! We met one of the owners who helped us decide on his favorites for gluten free and he was so passionate and you could just tell he loved what he did. I can’t wait to visit again to stock up even more. So rare to find such a gem! Thank you for being such an amazing business filled with passion and love for what you do.

DELICIOUS! SAVORY! Worth IT!!!! I have ordered JD Flannel Donuts a handful of times for our Friday Donut Day at work! The team absolutely raves about how amazing they are! So many options, including Gluten Free and Vegan! There is a donut for everyone ☺️ Although they are more pricey than the average donut, they are totally worth it! Treat yourself and enjoy one of their fabulous donuts ASAP

So I’m a big donut fan and I have very high standards. I think in general that most donut places are more concerned with making donuts fast, then the actual quality of the donut. This place is not that at all. The flavor profiles are amazing. I’ve tried 3 or 4 different flavors now and they’re all great. I think the bananas foster is my favorite at this point but I intend to try every flavor just to make sure. The staff is always great too. I’ve come on different days and different times but the welcome and service is exactly the same each time. I wish they were open 7 days a week but that’s just me being selfish lol. Can’t wait to come back again

While visiting family in Orange County, I wanted to grab some donuts to share. But, not your “typical” donut shop choices. And JD Flannel was the perfect spot! The Maple Bacon is amazing. Their lemon Blueberry with Meyer Lemon Glaze was a perfect combination of sweet and tart. The boysenberry glazed, wonderful. I wish I had taken a couple pictures, but everyone was busily gobbling them up.
Dave, the owner, is wonderful. Very personable and always making sure his customers are happy. His staff is very friendly and helpful.
We look forward to going again when we’re in the area.

JD Flannel is incredible! I could not recommend more. Best donuts I have ever tasted. Huge gluten free selection that tastes just as good as the regular ones, if not better! The owners are such great people and the employees are so friendly! I drive 45 minutes further than Sidecar. Environment, flavor, service, and options are much better than Sidecar in my opinion. Love JD Flannel!

This is a nice little shop, but they only have two Vegan options. I just went with the chocolate. The regular doughnuts look good but today I’m going Vegan. All the employees are super nice. They have outside seating to enjoy your goodies

i love this donut shop! as a vegan, finding good donuts is difficult. JD Flannel hits the spot every time. my non-vegan friend also loves this shop, specifically the brown butter sea salt donut. definitely recommend this place!
