Hogetsu Bakery Reviews

This is the best Mochi that I have had in San Diego! I’ve lived in Japan for a little while and the mochi here has the most authentic taste. Hogetsu Bakery is highly recommend! Plus the staff is extremely friendly, and that is always a good thing.

This is our first time at this place. Quite surprising! The mochi were delicious and fresh. The staff were extremely friendly. They even made us fresh green tea mochi! My favorite is the apricot mochi, so yummy!

I love the mochi from Hogetsu Bakery. Soft, sweet, and so many different mochi to choose from. It’s a Humble small shop. I’m always happy to see and have a quick chat with the owners. They do have seasonal mochi as well. It’s really tucked away, and have decent parking.

Incredible! Best mochi ever!!! We walked in and were greeted immediately by a kind gentleman. We told him it was our first time and he explained all of the offerings from fruity to with red beans and chocolate. We were so excited that we bought 10! Strawberry, orange, butter, floral, red bean, apricot and more! They were all delicious, fresh, and natural. Each mochi is 1.85, with a few being $2, nevertheless, this is way cheaper than mochi sold in MD.

I was recommended this mochi and it definitely doesn’t disappoint! The employees are also very helpful with answering any questions we had or providing recommendations. Only regret is not buying more!!

Great little sweets shop, run by a very enthusiastic and generous couple. Their mochi selection includes typically the gyuuhi soft type and the red or white bean filled daifuku. Our favorites are the citrus and pineapple ones and the smooth redbean filled. They also have seasonal selection such as strawberry daifuku, or specially decorated pieces, or other forms of wagashi like kimi shigure, manju, or yokan.

The owner is engaging, prices are very very fair and the mochi is really excellent. Easily on par with anything in SF or LA or Hawaii. If you like mochi, stop by! Only wish they made warabi mochi

it took me 6 months before I could experience this shop for myself. I saw a post online about this shop and immediately forwarded to my friends locally, so they could check it out before I visited.

cash only, and business owners who are here to help their community as well. their selection is limited during pandemic, so I asked for one of everything they had. and then some 😉

my friend’a favorites are the chewy, milky, and peanut butter.

my favorites? PINEAPPLE MOCHI, I was amazed at how good it was, and both pieces I ate had a little bit of pineapple pulp, perfect. Chewy mochi, firmer, and chewy, with a slight saltiness I craved while trying all their other sweet flavors. Kinako (roasted soybean powder) was filled with the chunky sweet red bean, I liked their smooth red bean but the kinako powder is so tasty. Cute turtle dorayaki was a pancake with red bean filling. And the mochi wrapped in the pancake was also very good!! I had a SURPRISE when I bit into a filled mochi that had white bean filling and a dried apricot! it was sooo good. And finally, their yokan was super tall, def try it if you like red bean and agar.

The owners are very sweet and friendly. Walking into their store feels like taking a portal to Fukui, Japan. The mochi is the best I’ve ever had in the states. Worth the 45 minute drive from north county SD.

Open Wednesday through Saturday, and as of my visit mochi are $1.85 each.

These mochi were delicious, and beautifully made! The plain mochi (pink and yellow stripe in pictures) was fresh, delicately chewy, and lightly fluffy—the perfect mochi consistency for my taste!

I recommend calling before you go in, to make sure they are open and check product availability. There are some beverages and various Asian snacks available as well in the small storefront. The owners are around 70, and the thought that they might retire some day makes me sad, as I just found them and need them in my future forever.

This place is great. Amazing fresh mochi. The owners were so friendly and talked with me like I’ve been a customer for years. What a hidden gem in Chula Vista. Please go and support this great business places like this won’t be around forever.
