I ordered $200 worth of pastries and cookies and cupcakes for my daughter’s funeral. I live in Texas and had her service in Iowa. Everything was ready on time and absolutely delicious! I don’t like cupcakes but I loved these especially the white cake with chocolate frosting. We had cookies decorated in cats and dogs. They were delicious, popular and lots of compliments. Thank you so very much!

Good donuts and rolls, and I like the atmosphere and I like to support local, but the customer service here drives me nuts. Every time I go in, there’s a long line and only one guy who works there who seems to move faster when it’s busy. Staff take a couple minutes to talk amongst themselves before helping the next person. Having grown up working in my family’s restaurant, it’s just frustrating to see a long line waiting and the people working moving so slowly.
Again, great bakery, NICE employees, just like…MOVE!

Highland Park Bakery has the BEST Donuts. They don’t skimp on fillings. Bavarian Creme is my favorite but we Love them all. Cost a little more then DD but well worth it.

Just wanted to make you aware of the environment that we experienced on Saturday morning. Let’s just say not pleasant. Young girl helping us and you could tell she was new. Older lady I believe to be an owner who was talking down to her loudly and in front of customers. Then a gentleman taking an order for a cake and the older lady once again putting her nose in his business and not trusting that he could get the job done. I wanted to give her a piece of my mind, but want to say what great service the young girl gave us. Then we get home with the 12 frosted sugar cookies and you could clearly tell they were old. They were so hard and even tasted stale. Well it ruined the moment. Have to say the name needs to be changed as the Highland Park Bakery back in the day would never had sold such garbage. I love to support local, but will never return again.

I hate to give only one star because I love their donuts!! But, I picked up a 8” round chocolate cake with white frosting and had it two days later for a birthday party. Frosting was good, that’s all!! The chocolate cake was dense and very dry!! Not moist!! AWFUL!! I just trashed over half a cake. I expect more from Hiland Bakery and they failed!!

I would not recommend this place to anyone. We had them make a cake and cookies for our wedding. Placed the order 1 month in advance and wanted to add more cookies. We reached out to them multiple times to verify everything was a go. (Which getting ahold of them is a chore in its self) My father in law went to pick up the cookies the day before the wedding and they only made half the order. When I called to discuss this with them, they said it was our fault and there was nothing they could do about it. Not even willing to try and help out at all since we still had more than 24 hours to the wedding. I would think a business with good service would try and help out in any way they could. Don’t waste your time or money here.

Staff is amazing. We went for wedding cake tasting. Atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable, a little loud for me that early in the morning lol. Over all great experience we will be bake to try some other yummies

Poor product. No flavor. Nothing at all like the previous owner’s donuts and pastries. Used to be the best donuts in Des Moines. Miss those days.

Very good donuts. The filled donuts had filling in every bite. I like the icing they use over the traditional icing most places use.
