We were so hyped to try Blue Star! We had heard amazing things and the expectations were high. Unfortunately, these just didn’t hold up to other options in the area.

While the flavors aren’t terrible, for $50 a dozen (plus extra for their ‘premium’ options) we expected more. The dough base is the same for every donut, so really they just specialize in glazes. The dough base is dense and on the dry side. There were a few tasty moments, but all in all a lot of the combinations weren’t to our taste. Innovative, for sure, but not necessarily successful. My grandfather, who never turns a donut down, took one bite and then handed the donut backed and politely asked we never get one for him again.

We will not be back. 1 star for the flavor plus an extra star for the really friendly and expedient service. The staff is awesome, unfortunately the flavor does not match the vibe.

First time visiting Portland, Oregon
Blue Star Donuts was mentioned as a place to visit if you enjoy donuts .
On the show case window of donuts, non-traditional flavors …yummy!
I’ve ordered the Apple Cider Fritter (perfect amount of apples to every bite), Buttermilk Old Fashion donut (perfect amount of sweetness with the glazed…vanilla/caramel flavor) and a cup of regular coffee.
The atmosphere is inviting, clean and bright.
Customer service was on point… friendly with a smile , didn’t feel rush since it was my first time.
Whenever you’re in Portland, Blue Star Donuts is the place to visit for your morning breakfast, afternoon treat or just because

Definitely the best donuts I’ve had in a VERY long time (and I stopped at several different places during my recent trip to Portland).

I ordered the Meyer Lemon filled one. SO GOOD. I’m planning to go back again before I leave for the airport to try some other ones.

The flavors are definitely geared towards adult taste buds, but in a very good way. More complex on the flavor combos

One of my favorite places to get donuts when you’re looking for something a little “extra”. These guys are definitely out of the box thinkers. You won’t find any plain chocolate or vanilla iced with sprinkles here. Instead, every donut has a unique flavor combination that is sure to set your tastebuds ablaze. From Crème Brûlée to Chocolate Almond Ganache, you’re definitely going to find something that makes you drool.

And the donuts are huge too! Definitely big enough for two, at least in my opinion. My preference is to get a wide variety and then slice them into smaller sections so that everyone gets to try the different flavors for themselves.

Bottom line, if you’ve never tried Blue Star, give them a shot. You won’t be disappointed. They may be a little on the more expensive side, but you definitely get what you pay for.

Just GO. Wholesome and excellent from product to employees to environment. Very high quality tasty goodness. Even if you’re avoiding yummy indulgence, it’s worth just buying one and staring at it – you’ll come around. Still true to donut nature, but has evolved to an apex donut in the most efficient form – table to mouth. Fan art!

The best donuts I’ve had in Portland! They have a variety of classics and are always developing new and delectable flavor combinations.

Really good doughnuts and unique flavors! Our favorites were the blueberry basil and the old fashioned lemon poppyseed. The staff was very friendly and kind even though they were having an incredibly busy morning.

This is a new Blue Star location and it is very big with lots of places to sit and relax. There is also a lot of parking in Goose Hollow. They have the same good selection of donuts and also small holes in the fridge you can buy and take home as well as lots of different coffee. Not cheap so if you are looking for lots of donuts go somewhere else this is the kid of place where you buy a couple and share them.

A must visit every time we’re in Portland (or LA). Creative and delicious donuts! Start was fantastic – helping adjust drinks on the order that was pre paid.

The pear lavender brûlée donut was amazing!!! I also loved the Meyer Lemon & Key Lime Curd donut.
